Therapy That Honors the
Mind-Body-Spirit Connection
Hello + Welcome
If you've been holding it all together and wondering when it’s your turn to exhale, you're in the right place. This is your invitation to slow down, take a breath, and let someone hold space for you.
Maybe your life looks the way it's ‘supposed’ to, but it doesn't feel the way you want it to. Maybe you've been carrying something for so long that you've forgotten what it feels like to set it down. Or maybe you've been thinking about reaching out for support for a while now, and today is the day it finally felt right.
Whatever brought you here, we want you to know: healing and change are always possible.
At The Holistic Counseling Center, we take a holistic approach to therapy. Our clinicians integrate evidence-based modalities like CBT, EMDR, and IFS with somatic therapy, mindfulness, and holistic practices that honor the connection between your mind, body, and spirit.
We don't just help you manage your symptoms. We help you fear less, love more, and build a life that actually feels like yours.
If you're ready for support, schedule a free consultation call to learn more and get matched with a therapist.
"You've been criticizing yourself for years and it hasn't worked. Try approving of yourself and see what happens." — Louise Hay
Therapy Can Help You Navigate:
Anxiety + Stress
Trauma + Healing
Relationships
Spirituality + Personal Growth
Life Transitions + Family
We believe true healing happens when we treat the whole person, not just the symptoms. That means we don't stop at helping you feel better. We walk the full path with you, from finding safety in your nervous system, to reconnecting with your heart, to remembering who you actually are underneath the pain, the programming, and the patterns.
How we approach holistic psychotherapy:
Clinically Grounded, Spiritually Informed
Our work is rooted in evidence-based therapeutic methods. It's also informed by something deeper. We honor the spiritual dimensions of your life, not as an afterthought, but as an essential part of who you are and how you heal.More Than Symptom Management
We look beneath the surface to understand what's actually driving your distress. The emotional threads, the body's signals, the patterns that started long before you had words for them. We're not interested in quick fixes. We want to unearth the root. You Are Not Your Diagnosis
We view your struggles as messages worth listening to, not as evidence that there's something wrong with you. Our work honors you as a whole person, not a collection of problems to fix. We're here to help you reconnect with who you are beyond your symptoms and build the self-trust and self-love that are foundational to the healing journey.Practical Skills + Deep Inner Work
Our sessions balance grounded, everyday strategies with deeper therapeutic exploration. Whether you're learning to regulate your nervous system, engaging in shadow work, or reconnecting with your inner child, you'll walk away with tools you can use right now and the deeper understanding that makes healing and change possible.
Take the next step on your healing journey. Schedule a free consultation call to get started with one of our Folsom therapists.

Types of Therapy We Offer:
-

Holistic Therapy
Healing requires more than just changing your mind. Holistic therapy weaves together evidence-based clinical methods with practices that honor the mind, body, heart and spirit on your healing journey. -

Internal Family Systems Therapy (IFS)
Learn to identify and understand all the parts that make you 'you'. IFS helps you reclaim parts of yourself long ago abandoned, offering compassion where there has been judgment and understanding where there has been pain. The result? More peace, more ease, more freedom to live your life. -

Somatic Therapy
Your body encodes everything you experience in your life: memories, feelings, experiences, desires. Somatic therapy works directly with the body and nervous system, helping you move out of survival mode and release what talk therapy alone can't always reach. -

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
Learn how to change your negative thought patterns and behaviors by working directly with the mind. CBT gives you practical, grounded tools you can use in your life right now. It's the gold standard for anxiety and depression because it works. -

EMDR Therapy
Your brain has an innate capacity to heal, but sometimes difficult experiences interrupt the process and can keep you stuck. EMDR uses bilateral stimulation to help the brain reprocess trauma, stress, and deeply rooted patterns, releasing and rewiring what's been held in the mind, body, and nervous system. -

Spiritual Therapy
Why are we here? Why are we suffering? Spiritual therapy integrates clinical depth with the existential and spiritual dimensions of your experience, honoring that you are so much more than your diagnosis, your history, and your symptoms. This is where therapy meets something sacred.
Hi, I’m Kim Burris
Founder of The Holistic Counseling Center and a licensed therapist serving the Folsom and El Dorado Hills community.
I believe that being human is a practice and that we all need support.
I want you to know that reaching out for help isn't a sign that something is wrong with you. It's a sign that you're paying attention. When the life you've built starts to feel heavier than it should, when you're giving everything to everyone else and there's nothing left for you, when something inside keeps whispering there has to be more than this, that's worth listening to.
I started this practice because I believe everyone deserves a space where they can show up exactly as they are, without performing, without minimizing, without having it all figured out first. Whether you're the mom running on fumes, the couple stuck in the same cycle, the teen who's quietly carrying too much, or someone who just feels off and can't quite name why, you can walk into our office and finally feel met.
Our therapists bring clinical excellence and real heart to this work. We're trained in evidence-based modalities and holistic practices, and we care deeply about this community.
Whatever you're holding right now, the weight, the worry, the "I don't even know where to begin," I want you to know that all parts of you are welcome here. There's nothing too messy or too much about your experience. We see you, we honor you, and we're here for you.
If you're looking for a therapist, we'd love to talk.

Therapy in Folsom FAQs
-
Our office is in El Dorado Hills, just one exit past Folsom on US-50. The drive from most Folsom neighborhoods is about five minutes, and many of our current clients come from Folsom and surrounding areas. We chose our location in the El Dorado Hills Business Park because it's central to the community we serve, including Folsom, Cameron Park, Placerville, and the greater Sacramento area. Virtual therapy is also available for anyone who prefers to meet from home.
-
The easiest way to get started is to book a free consultation call through our website. During this call, our intake coordinator will learn about what kind of support you're looking for, answer your questions, and match you with one of our therapists based on your needs, preferences, and goals. From there, we'll get your first session scheduled at our El Dorado Hills office or online, whatever works best.
-
Most clients are scheduled for their first session within one to five days. We know that reaching out takes courage, and we don't want scheduling to slow things down. When you book your consultation call, our intake coordinator will find a time that works for you as quickly as possible.
-
If you're looking for a therapist who does more than just traditional psychotherapy, you're in the right place. At The Holistic Counseling Center, our therapists bring advanced training in modalities like CBT, EMDR, IFS, Somatic Therapy, and Brainspotting, all within a holistic framework that honors the connection between mind, body, heart and spirit.
Schedule a free consultation call and we'll help you find the right therapist for you.
-
Absolutely. Our El Dorado Hills office is centrally located off US-50, making it an easy drive from Sacramento, Fair Oaks and Rancho Cordova. Whether you're looking for in-person therapy close to home or prefer the flexibility of online therapy, we're here.
-
Holistic therapy is an integrative approach that works with the whole person, mind, body, and spirit, rather than focusing only on symptoms. Traditional therapy often centers on thoughts and behaviors. Holistic therapy also honors the wisdom of the body, the nervous system, and your deeper sense of meaning and purpose in the healing process.
In your sessions, this might look like clinical approaches such as CBT or IFS woven together with somatic practices, mindfulness, breathwork, or exploration of what matters most to you. The goal isn't just to feel better. It's to build a life that actually feels like yours.
-
Our therapists bring advanced training in a wide range of modalities that we tailor to your needs and goals. These include:
CBT · DBT · EMDR · IFS · Existential Therapy · Holistic Therapy · Mindfulness Therapy · Polyvagal Therapy · Brainspotting · Psychodynamic Therapy · Depth Therapy · Relational Therapy · Somatic Therapy · Somatic Experiencing · Spiritual Therapy
You don't need to know which approach is right for you before starting. That's our job. Our intake coordinator can match you with one of our therapists during your consultation call.
Curious about all the modalities we offer?
-
We work with adults, couples, moms, and teens navigating a wide range of experiences, from anxiety, depression, and trauma to relationship struggles, parenting stress, life transitions, postpartum challenges, burnout, and questions of meaning and purpose
You don't need to be in crisis to start therapy. Many of our clients reach out because something feels off and they want more than surface-level solutions. If you're ready for support that addresses root causes rather than just symptoms, our holistic approach may be exactly what you're looking for.
-
Both options can be deeply effective, and the right choice depends on what works for your life.
That said, many clients find that in-person sessions offer something distinct. Leaving your daily environment and stepping into a space created for your healing can make a real difference. There are fewer distractions, it's easier to connect with what's happening in your body, and the nervous system often settles more quickly when you're physically present with your therapist. For modalities like Somatic Therapy, EMDR, and Brainspotting, in-person work can be especially powerful.
Online therapy is a wonderful option when you need flexibility, and many clients use a combination of both. What matters most is showing up consistently for yourself.
-
Of course. You can move between in-person and virtual sessions whenever it makes sense for your life, no complicated process required. Just let your therapist know and we'll adjust.
-

Yes. Anxiety is one of the most common reasons people reach out to us, and we take a different approach than most. Our therapists use CBT, Somatic Therapy, IFS, and EMDR to get underneath your anxiety, not just help you cope with it. If you're living with panic attacks, high-functioning anxiety, burnout, or that constant undercurrent of worry that won't let up, we can help. Learn more about our anxiety therapy services or book a free consultation to get started.
-
Yes. Our couples therapists help couples who feel disconnected, caught in the same arguments, or wondering if things can actually change. Using relational approaches like EFT, Gottman, and RLT, we help you get beneath the conflict to understand what's really going on and start rebuilding from there. Evening and weekend sessions are available at our El Dorado Hills office, just minutes from Folsom. Learn more about our couples counseling or schedule a consultation.
-
Yes. Our postpartum therapists work with moms navigating postpartum depression, postpartum anxiety, and the emotional intensity of early motherhood that nobody fully warns you about. With advanced training in perinatal mental health, we take a holistic approach that meets you where you are, body, mind, and identity. You don't have to do this alone. Learn more about our postpartum therapy or book a consultation.
-
Yes. Our teen therapists create a safe, nonjudgmental space for teens working through anxiety, depression, social pressure, academic overwhelm, family tension, and the things they might not feel comfortable talking about at home. We meet your teen where they are and give them real tools to work with, not lectures. If your teen is struggling and you're not sure what they need, we can help you figure that out. Learn more about our teen therapy or book a consultation call.
-
The relationship with your therapist is the foundation of the work, and fit matters. If something doesn't feel right, we want to know.
One of the benefits of working with a group practice is that switching therapists is simple and uncomplicated. You don't need a reason, and your therapist won't take it personally. Just let our intake coordinator know and we'll match you with someone else on our team. You can also chat with a therapist before your first session to see how it feels. We have a team with different styles, specialties, and personalities, and the goal is always to find the right person for you.
-
Yes! We know that between work, family, school schedules, and everything else, finding time for therapy can feel like one more thing to figure out. We don't want timing to be a barrier. Our therapists offer evening and weekend appointments at our El Dorado Hills office.
When you schedule your consultation, let our intake coordinator know your scheduling preferences and we'll find a therapist with availability that works for your life.
-
Sessions range from $160 to $300, depending on which therapist you work with.
We do not accept insurance directly, but we can help you pursue reimbursement through your out-of-network benefits. Many clients with PPO insurance are reimbursed 50–80% of the session fee, which can bring the out-of-pocket cost to $20–$150 per session.
Learn more about our fees and how to work with insurance.
-
We are an out-of-network provider for most PPO insurance plans. While we don't bill insurance directly, we provide detailed superbills with everything your insurance company needs to process your out-of-network claim.
Many clients are surprised to find they can get significant reimbursement. If you're unsure what your plan covers, we're happy to help you figure that out. Learn more on our fees page.
