Therapy That Honors the
Mind-Body-Spirit Connection
Hello + Welcome
Whatever you're growing through right now, healing is possible. And you don't have to figure it out alone.
Whether you're feeling stuck in old patterns, navigating stress, anxiety or depression, recovering from trauma, loss or midlife, or longing for more peace, purpose, and connection in your life, we’re here for you.
Maybe you've been in therapy before, and it helped, but it didn't quite get to the places that still need tending. Or maybe you've been holding it all together for so long (the career, the family, the mental load of a life that costs everything you've got) that you've forgotten what it feels like to actually live your life.
You deserve more than a life of chaos, overwhelm, and a system stuck in survival mode.
At The Holistic Counseling Center, we offer in-person therapy in San Anselmo that honors the mind-body-spirit connection. We believe that symptoms are signals, guiding you towards what needs to be healed, integrated, and reclaimed.
We are currently accepting new clients, with daytime and evening appointments available.
If you're ready for support, schedule a free call to learn more and get matched with a therapist.
"To love yourself right now, just as you are, is to give yourself heaven. Don't wait until you die. If you wait, you die now. If you love, you live now." — Alan Cohen
Therapy Can Help You Navigate:
Anxiety + Stress
Trauma + Healing
Relationships
Spirituality + Personal Growth
Life Transitions + Family
We believe true healing happens when we treat the whole person, not just the symptoms. That means we don't stop at helping you feel better. We walk the full path with you, from finding safety in your nervous system, to reconnecting with your heart, to remembering who you actually are underneath the pain, the programming, and the patterns.
How we approach holistic psychotherapy:
Clinically Grounded, Spiritually Informed Our work is rooted in evidence-based therapeutic methods. It's also informed by something deeper. We honor the spiritual dimensions of your life, not as an afterthought, but as an essential part of who you are and how you heal.
More Than Symptom Management We look beneath the surface to understand what's actually driving your distress. The emotional threads, the body's signals, the patterns that started long before you had words for them. We're not interested in quick fixes. We want to unearth the root.
You Are Not Your Diagnosis We view your struggles as messages worth listening to, not as evidence that there's something wrong with you. Our work honors you as a whole person, not a collection of problems to fix. We're here to help you reconnect with who you are beyond your symptoms and build the self-trust and self-love that are foundational to the healing journey.
Practical Skills + Deep Inner Work Our sessions balance grounded, everyday strategies with deeper therapeutic exploration. Whether you're learning to regulate your nervous system, engaging in shadow work, or reconnecting with your inner child, you'll walk away with tools you can use right now and the deeper understanding that makes healing and change possible.
Take the next step on your healing journey. Schedule a free consultation call to get started with one of our San Anselmo therapists.

Counseling Center in San Anselmo
Types of Therapy We Offer:
-

Holistic Therapy
Healing requires more than just changing your mind. Holistic therapy weaves together evidence-based clinical methods with practices that honor the mind, body, heart and spirit on your healing journey. -

Internal Family Systems Therapy (IFS)
Learn to identify and understand all the parts that make you 'you'. IFS helps you reclaim parts of yourself long ago abandoned, offering compassion where there has been judgment and understanding where there has been pain. The result? More peace, more ease, more freedom to live your life. -

Somatic Therapy
Your body encodes everything you experience in your life: memories, feelings, experiences, desires. Somatic therapy works directly with the body and nervous system, helping you move out of survival mode and release what talk therapy alone can't always reach. -

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
Learn how to change your negative thought patterns and behaviors by working directly with the mind. CBT gives you practical, grounded tools you can use in your life right now. It's the gold standard for anxiety and depression because it works. -

EMDR Therapy
Your brain has an innate capacity to heal, but sometimes difficult experiences interrupt the process and can keep you stuck. EMDR uses bilateral stimulation to help the brain reprocess trauma, stress, and deeply rooted patterns, releasing and rewiring what's been held in the mind, body, and nervous system. -

Spiritual Therapy
Why are we here? Why are we suffering? Spiritual therapy integrates clinical depth with the existential and spiritual dimensions of your experience, honoring that you are so much more than your diagnosis, your history, and your symptoms. This is where therapy meets something sacred.
Hi, I’m Kim Burris
Founder of The Holistic Counseling Center and a licensed therapist in San Anselmo
I believe that being human is a practice and that we all need support.
I founded this practice because I know how hard it can be to find a therapist who actually gets it: therapy that honors the intersection of mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual health. Not just effective coping strategies and tools, but the real work, getting into the old patterns, programming, and pain that still live in your body, in your heart, and helping you access the strength, courage, and connection needed to build a life that feels like yours.
Maybe you've been holding it all together for so long that you've forgotten what it feels like to actually live your life. Or maybe you've done therapy before and it helped, but it didn't quite reach the places that still need tending. I’m betting you just haven't found the right fit yet.
Our San Anselmo team brings both clinical expertise and real depth to this work. We're trained in modalities like IFS, somatic therapy, EMDR, and Brainspotting, along with breathwork, yoga, and meditation, and we go to the places often ignored in traditional therapy: the spiritual, the existential, the messy, and the sacred.
No matter what you're going through right now, I want you to know that all parts of you are welcome here. There's nothing about you or your experience that is too much, too messy, or too hard. We see you, we honor you, and we'll walk through it with you.
If you're ready to take the next step, we'd love to support you.

Experience the Benefits of In-Person Therapy in San Anselmo
Marin is inherently healing. The trails…the ocean…the redwoods…it's a place that reminds you life is beautiful even when it's hard. But even with all the beauty, sometimes you need more to truly support your healing journey. It can be hard to actually take the time you need (and want) to focus on yourself.
Tending to yourself isn’t a luxury. It’s the foundation.
When you come in for in-person therapy, you're stepping out of your routine and into a space that exists just for you. No screens, no to-do list, no one else's needs. Just you, your therapist, and the room to be honest about what's really going on. To tune in and tend to yourself so that your foundation is strong, and the future you want can actually be created.
Our San Anselmo office was designed with that intention. A warm, calm, grounded space where your nervous system can finally settle, you can exhale deeply, and deep work can begin.
If you’ve been looking for an in-person therapist in Marin, this is your invitation: Come on in, sit down, breathe deep. We'll guide you every step of the way.

Holistic therapy is an integrative approach that treats the whole person, mind, body, and spirit, not just the symptoms. Where traditional therapy often focuses primarily on thoughts and behaviors, holistic therapy also honors the role of the body, the nervous system, and the spiritual dimensions of your experience in the healing process.
In practice, this means your sessions might include clinical approaches like EMDR, CBT or IFS alongside somatic practices, mindfulness, breathwork, or exploration of meaning and purpose. The goal isn't just to feel better. It's to build a life that actually feels like yours.
-
Our San Anselmo therapists bring advanced training in a wide range of modalities that we tailor to your specific needs and goals. These include:
CBT · DBT · EMDR · Holistic Therapy · IFS · Mindfulness Therapy · Polyvagal Therapy · Brainspotting · Depth Therapy · Psychodynamic Therapy · Relational Therapy · Somatic Therapy · Somatic Experiencing · Existential Therapy · Spiritual Therapy
You don't need to know which modality is right for you before you start. That's our job. Our intake coordinator can help by matching you with one of our therapists during your consultation call.

We work with adults, couples, moms and teens navigating a wide range of experiences, from anxiety, depression, and trauma to relationship difficulties, career stress, life transitions, postpartum challenges, burnout, and questions of meaning and purpose.
You don't need to be in crisis to benefit from therapy. Many of our clients come because something feels off, and they want more than surface-level solutions. If you're looking for support that addresses root causes rather than just managing symptoms, our holistic approach may be a good fit.
-
Both can be deeply effective, and the best choice depends on what works for you.
That said, many of our clients find that in-person therapy offers something unique. When you come into the office, you're stepping out of your daily routine and into a space that exists solely for your healing. There are fewer distractions, it's easier to tune into your body, and the nervous system often settles more quickly when you're physically present with your therapist. For modalities like Somatic Therapy and Brainspotting, in-person work can be especially powerful.
Online therapy is a wonderful option when you need flexibility, and many clients use a combination of both. What matters most is that you show up consistently for yourself, in whatever format supports that.
-
Absolutely. You can move between in-person and virtual sessions whenever you need to, no complicated process required. Life changes, schedules shift, and we want therapy to work with your life, not against it. Just let your therapist know, and we'll adjust.
-

The relationship between you and your therapist is the foundation of the work. If the fit doesn't feel right, we want to know, and we want to help.
One of the advantages of working with a group practice like The Holistic Counseling Center is that switching therapists is simple and uncomplicated. If it doesn't feel right you don't need a "reason" and your therapist doesn't take it personally. Just let our intake coordinator know, and we'll match you with someone else on our team. You can always chat with your therapist before a first session to see how it feels and assess for yourself if it's a good fit. We have a team of therapists with different styles, specialties, and personalities, and the goal is always to find the right person for you.
-
Yes! We understand that most of our clients are balancing full schedules, and we don't want timing to be a barrier to getting support. Our San Anselmo therapists offer evening and weekend appointments.

-
Sessions range from $160 to $300, depending on which therapist you work with.
We do not accept insurance directly, but we can help you seek reimbursement through your out-of-network benefits. Many of our clients with PPO insurance are reimbursed 50–80% of the session fee, which can bring the out-of-pocket cost to $20–$150 per session.
Learn more about our fees and how to work with insurance.
-
We are an out-of-network provider for most PPO insurance plans. While we don't bill insurance directly, we provide detailed superbills with everything your insurance company needs to process your out-of-network claim.
Many clients are surprised to learn they can get significant reimbursement. If you're not sure what your plan covers, we're happy to help you figure that out. Learn more on our fees page.
