Mind-Body-Spirit Connection
Hello + Welcome
Whether you're moving through life transitions, recovering from trauma or codependency, exploring the deeper meaning of anxiety or depression, or just trying to feel like yourself again, you're in the right place.
At The Holistic Counseling Center, we offer evidence-based therapy with a heart-centered approach that honors the mind-body-spirit connection.
We can help you get to the root of what's keeping you stuck, find relief from your symptoms, and start living a life that actually feels like yours.
Our therapists weave together somatic therapy, depth psychology, mindfulness practices, and nervous system healing to help you move from survival mode into a more authentic, grounded, and easeful way of being.
Whatever you're struggling with, healing and change are always possible.
We serve clients from Berkeley at our San Francisco office in the heart of downtown, just across the Bay Bridge. We also offer in-person therapy at our San Anselmo office in Marin County, and online therapy throughout California for those who prefer to meet from home.
If you're ready for support, schedule a free consultation call to learn more about how we can help and get matched with a therapist.

Therapy at The Holistic Counseling Center in the Bay Area
We believe true healing happens when we treat the whole person, not just the symptoms. That means we don't stop at helping you feel better. We walk the full path with you, from finding safety in your nervous system, to reconnecting with your heart, to remembering who you actually are underneath the pain, the programming, and the patterns.
How we approach holistic psychotherapy:
Clinically Grounded, Spiritually Informed Our work is rooted in evidence-based therapeutic methods. It's also informed by something deeper. We honor the spiritual dimensions of your life, not as an afterthought, but as an essential part of who you are and how you heal.
More Than Symptom Management We look beneath the surface to understand what's actually driving your distress. The emotional threads, the body's signals, the patterns that started long before you had words for them. We're not interested in quick fixes. We want to unearth the root.
You Are Not Your Diagnosis We view your struggles as messages worth listening to, not as evidence that there's something wrong with you. Our work honors you as a whole person, not a collection of problems to fix. We're here to help you reconnect with who you are beyond your symptoms and build the self-trust and self-love that are foundational to the healing journey.
Practical Skills + Deep Inner Work Our sessions balance grounded, everyday strategies with deeper therapeutic exploration. Whether you're learning to regulate your nervous system, engaging in shadow work, or reconnecting with your inner child, you'll walk away with tools you can use right now and the deeper understanding that makes healing and change possible.
Take the next step on your healing journey. Schedule a free consultation call to get started with one of our Berkeley-area therapists.
Types of Therapy We Offer:
-

Holistic Therapy
Healing requires more than just changing your mind. Holistic therapy weaves together evidence-based clinical methods with practices that honor the mind, body, heart and spirit on your healing journey. -

Internal Family Systems Therapy (IFS)
Learn to identify and understand all the parts that make you 'you'. IFS helps you reclaim parts of yourself long ago abandoned, offering compassion where there has been judgment and understanding where there has been pain. The result? More peace, more ease, more freedom to live your life. -

Somatic Therapy
Your body encodes everything you experience in your life: memories, feelings, experiences, desires. Somatic therapy works directly with the body and nervous system, helping you move out of survival mode and release what talk therapy alone can't always reach. -

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
Learn how to change your negative thought patterns and behaviors by working directly with the mind. CBT gives you practical, grounded tools you can use in your life right now. It's the gold standard for anxiety and depression because it works. -

EMDR Therapy
Your brain has an innate capacity to heal, but sometimes difficult experiences interrupt the process and can keep you stuck. EMDR uses bilateral stimulation to help the brain reprocess trauma, stress, and deeply rooted patterns, releasing and rewiring what's been held in the mind, body, and nervous system. -

Spiritual Therapy
Why are we here? Why are we suffering? Spiritual therapy integrates clinical depth with the existential and spiritual dimensions of your experience, honoring that you are so much more than your diagnosis, your history, and your symptoms. This is where therapy meets something sacred.
Hi, I’m Kim Burris
Founder of The Holistic Counseling Center and a Licensed Therapist in the Bay Area
I believe that being human is a practice and that we all need support.
I founded this practice because I believe therapy should be a place where real change happens, not just a space to talk. Where you get real tools, real depth, and real support for the questions that keep you up at night. I want getting help to feel like the normal, healthy, brave thing it actually is.
Our therapists bridge clinical excellence and spiritual depth to hold space for the larger existential questions underneath the anxiety, the trauma, the overwhelm. Here, we ask the big questions: Who am I beneath the suffering? What’s the point of being human? How do I actually connect with my Higher Self?
Whether you're coming to our San Francisco office, our San Anselmo office, or meeting with one of our therapists online, you'll find a team that brings real depth and heart to this work.
Whatever you're carrying right now, I want you to know that all parts of you are welcome here. There's nothing too much or too messy about you and your experience. We see you, we honor you, and we'll walk through it with you.
If you're ready to take the next step, schedule a free consultation call to learn more about our practice and get matched with one of our therapists.
We'd be honored to support you.

It depends on what's most convenient for your life. Our San Francisco office is located in the historic Hobart Building downtown, about 20 minutes from Berkeley across the Bay Bridge and easily accessible by BART. Holistic therapy is an integrative approach that treats the whole person, mind, body, and spirit, not just the symptoms. Where traditional therapy often focuses primarily on thoughts and behaviors, holistic therapy also honors the role of the body, the nervous system, and the spiritual dimensions of your experience in the healing process.
In practice, this means your Berkeley therapy sessions might include clinical approaches like CBT or IFS alongside somatic practices, mindfulness, breathwork, or exploration of meaning and purpose. The goal isn't just to feel better. It's to build a life that actually feels like yours.
-
The easiest way to get started is to book a free consultation call through our website. During this call, our intake coordinator will learn more about what kind of support you're looking for, answer any questions you have, and match you with one of our Bay Area therapists. From there, we'll schedule your first session at our San Francisco or San Anselmo office, or online, whatever works best for you.
-
Most clients are scheduled for their first session within one to five days. We know that reaching out for support takes courage, and we don't want scheduling to become a barrier. When you book your consultation call, our intake coordinator will work with you to find a time that fits your schedule as quickly as possible.
-
Both can be deeply effective, and the best choice depends on what works for you. That said, many of our clients find that in-person therapy offers something unique. When you come into the office, you're stepping out of your daily routine and into a space that exists solely for your healing. There are fewer distractions, it's easier to tune into your body, and the nervous system often settles more quickly when you're physically present with your therapist. For modalities like Somatic Therapy and Brainspotting, in-person work can be especially powerful.
-
Absolutely. You can move between in-person and virtual sessions whenever you need to, no complicated process required. Life changes, schedules shift, and we want therapy to work with your life, not against it. Just let your therapist know before your session, and we'll adjust.
-
